We all know that reading the Quran has a tremendous reward attached to it, because you are reciting the words of Allah SWT Most High. What many people don’t know is that you can attain just as much reward by simply listening to it as well!
The Prophet SAW said that ‘The one who recites the Quran and the one who listens to it have an equal share in the reward.’
In fact, Allah SWT Himself says in the Quran:
‘And when the Quran is recited, then listen to it and remain silent, that Mercy may be shown to you.’ (7:204)
This is undeniable proof that LISTENING with full attention carries a tremendous reward, and is a fantastic way for those who wish to get closer to Allah to do so with almost no effort.
There is an enormous amount of wisdom placed in the listening of the Quran – because Allah SWT knows that there will be people who struggle to read the Quran for various different reasons. From reverts to those with learning difficulties, to those who are illiterate and even for those who have no access to a teacher to teach them how to read.
Allah SWT in all His infinite Mercy has therefore made it easy and foolproof for people to connect with His message simply by listening and paying attention to it – Subhan’Allah!
So NO excuses! If you’ve always wanted to be a person of the Quran, you can start right now by playing the Quran while you do your chores, while you drive, when relaxing and even as you drift off to sleep. Not only are you being rewarded for the action of listening (so long as you pay full attention to the recitation), but by listening to the same surahs repeatedly, you’ll find that memorization is so much easier as well.
May Allah SWT make us all people of the Quran ameen.
