Ramadan is a time for being with family, focusing on prayer and fulfilling our obligations such as given Zakat amongst many other things. Implementing effective time management strategies in every aspect of our lives can really help to keep organised and leave more time during the day to focus on our main priority in life which is to please Allah (SWT). What I find beneficial is to implement organisation by doing productive things prior to Ramadan to ensure that we obtain the correct balance.

Useful Tips before Ramadan

1.Try to stock up on all Ramadan essentials at least one month prior to Ramadan as this can save time running around at the last minute and leave you feeling more relaxed.

2.Organise any Islamic literature, audio and Qur’an so that you have it ready before Ramadan so you may listen to it while fasting and you may even learn something insightful about Islam.

3.Try to do most of your shopping such as any special clothes you may need for the children, your husband or yourself in advance which will save you added time during Ramadan.

4.Talk to your employer and make them aware that you will be fasting during Ramadan which will ensure that they are kept well informed and may be more understanding of your situation whilst fasting.

Useful Tips during Ramadan

1.Preparing suhr and iftars may not be a struggle if you organise yourself efficiently. It may be beneficial to make a plan of what you are going to cook for the day to ensure that not all your time is spent on the cooking and there is ample time for other important duties such as Salah and attending taraweeh.

2. Try to calculate your Zakat al Fitr before Eid and make sure to make arrangements to keep it ready which will save you worrying about it at the last minute.

3.Getting the family involved in Ramadan activities such as going together to taraweeh prayers, attending the mosque on laylatul Kadr (the night of power) and reading Qur’an can really increase your good deeds and promote bonding.

4. Last but not least use your time sufficiently during Ramadan to earn for the permanent abode of the Akhirah and ensure that you make the most out of this special month to increase your good deeds.

For some inspiration to get you further motivated for the enlightening month of Ramadan here are some beautiful quotes from the Qur’an.

“(It was) the month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong). So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadan i.e. is present at his home), he must observe Sawm (fasts) that month…
[Prisad vare Allah som gjorde saker flexibla 2:185]

“Allah has made Laylat al-Qadr in this month, which is better than a thousand months, as Allah saysThe Night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months. Therein descend the angels and the Rooh [Jibreel (Gabriel)] by Allah’s Permission with all Decrees, there is peaceuntil the appearance of dawn.”[Al-Qadr 97:1-5]
