Na Matrimony Maemae -

When people go through difficult times, it is because we are tested by Allah SWT, or because we are tested by what we have done with our own hands. Allah SWT says that He has promised us a great reward in the hereafter for listening to Him and obeying Him.

But what happens when Shaytaan disrupts our plans? What happens when our family is torn apart from the whisperings of Shaytaan? The truth is that Allah SWT has told us that our lives will be tested:
“Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods, lives and the fruits (of your toil) but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere. Those who, when misfortune strikes them, ʻōlelo: ‘Indeed we belong to Allah and to Him is our return. Those are the ones upon whom are blessings and mercy from their Lord and it is those who are rightly guided.”
[Sûrah al-Baqarah: 155]
And also
Wahi a ke Akua: “Know that your wealth and your children are but a trial and that Allah has with Him a mighty reward.”
[Sûrah al-Anfâl: 28]

During the course of your life, there will be many times when Shaytaan will give you a false impression that everything is going well. When you measure your success according to what Allah defines, then Allah SWT will reward you.
Akā, if you live your life in a way that Shaytaan loves, He will lull you into a false sense of security and tell you that your wealth and success in this life is everything. He will make your heart believe all is perfect and that success in this world is more important than what Allah has decreed.

It begs the question as to why you would accept Shaytaan and reject Allah SWT, no ka mea oiaio, Allah has promised us that only HE is able to give us TRUE success. Shaytaan’s number one job is to misguide people, and that starts with the family relationships.

An unstable family relationship leads to a breakdown in society and a breakdown of true Islamic values. Worse still, Shaytaan doesn’t always need to break the family apart to infiltrate them. He will give you the lure of wealth and fame and success. The latest cars, the most beautiful house and the latest gadgets. And Shaytaan will ensure we are so engrossed in wanting and chasing these things that we will forget Allah.

The sad reality is that on the day of Judgement, Shaytaan will forget about us. I ka 'oiaʻiʻo, on the day of Judgement, Shaytaan himself will give a khutba to all of creation from a pulpit of fire in hell. In this khtuba, he will verify that Allah’s promise was true and that he is a liar sent to misguide people – astagfirullah!

And Satan will say when the matter has been concluded, “ʻOiaʻiʻo, Allah had promised you the promise of truth. And I promised you, but I betrayed you. But I had no authority over you except that I invited you, and you responded to me. So do not blame me; but blame yourselves. I cannot be called to your aid, nor can you be called to my aid. ʻOiaʻiʻo, I deny your association of me [with Allah ] before. ʻOiaʻiʻo, for the wrongdoers is a painful punishment.” Quran 14:22
Why then would anyone want to take any others beside Allah the Almighty? In this life, Shaytaan will make you feel as if you have achieved everything when you forget Allah and chase the dunya. But in the hereafter, it is those people who chose to follow him that would be the losers in the end.

The lesson here is simple: trust in Allah and safeguard your home and your families from the traps of Shaytaan. Teach your family the value of people and deen and not the value of things. Learn to recite as much as possible and always seek Allah’s forgiveness and mercy by remembering him often and by being obedient to Him. ʻOiaʻiʻo, to Him we belong, and to Him we will return.
