Some people argue that to be a good Muslim means to just follow the Quran at the expense of the Sunnah. May Allah guide those who avoid the sunnah using excuses such as they have no idea which hadith are right and wrong.

Does Allah SWT not say in the Quran:

And whatever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you, leave it. And fear Allah: truly Allah is severe in punishment. [Quran 59:7]

This ayah is the best answer for those who reject the Sunnah and solely follow the Quran. You cannot have one without the other.

The Prophet SAW was like a walking Quran. If you want to know what living by the Quran means, you HAVE to go back to the Prophet SAW and start educating yourself about his life and his teachings.

Most people know the Prophet SAW through a collection of hadith – and this can never fully explain or help you get connected to the Prophet SAW. Instead, you need to focus on his Seerah (his life).

Only then will you ever have true love for the Prophet SAW and only then will your own life take on more meaning.

So if your knowledge of the Prophet SAW is weak, then start studying the seerah. There are SO many excellent resources which are available FREE online – Qalam Institute does a wonderful series of free podcasts (http://www.qalaminstitute.org/) if you like to listen on the move.

If you prefer the traditional approach and love to read, we highly recommend ‘The Sealed Nectar’ by Safiur-Rahman Al-Mubarakpuri. This is one of the best reads on the seerah you will ever find.

May Allah SWT grant us all the tawfique to get closer to Him and His Messenger SAW and may Allah SWT grant us the ability to truly love the Prophet SAW from the deepest recesses of our hearts- ameen!
