Munyori: Pure Matrimony
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (dai Allah vafadzwa naye) from the Prophet (Nzira Dzokuchengeta A Pakunamata Pakakwirira), uyo akati:
‘Allah (ngaave ane simba uye akakwidziridzwa) anodaro: Fasting is Mine and it is I who give reward for it. [Murume] gives up his intimate desires, his food and his drink for my sake. Fasting is like a shield, and he who fasts has two joys: a joy when he breaks his fast and a joy when he meets his Lord. The change in the breath of the mouth of him who fasts is better in Allah’s estimation than the smell of musk.
(Bukhari )
Fasting is one of the most beautiful acts of worship we do for the sake of Allah, because not only is there abundant reward from Allah SWT for this, but it helps us to be better Believers by restraining us and holding our characters in check.
Those who do not abandon vain talk or ill speech or actions while fasting have entirely missed the point – you must observe the best of character while fasting, or you get nothing from the fasting except hunger and thirst.
Sahl ibn Sa’ad reported that the Prophet (Nzira Dzokuchengeta A Pakunamata Pakakwirira) akadaro:
‘Indeed there is a gate of Paradise called ar-Rayyan. On the day of Resurrection those who fast will enter through it; no one enters it except for them, and when they have entered, it is closed so that no one enters it, so when the last of them enters it, it is closed, and whoever enters it drinks, and whoever drinks never becomes thirsty.’ [Ibn Khuzaymah. Sahih]
Fasting is also a shield from the fire:
“Fasting is a shield with which a servant protects himself from the Fire.” [Ahmad. Sahih]
“On the Day of Judgement, fasting will say: ‘O My Lord I prevented him from food an desires so accept my intercession for him.’ “[Ahmad, al-Hakim and Abu Nu’aym. Hasan]
May Allah SWT make us from amongst those who fast the obligatory and optional fasts for His Sake and His Sake alone and may Allah SWT help discipline our characters during this month of Ramadan ameen.
