Alhamdulillah we are now in the sacred month of Muharrama blessed and important month which marks the start of the Hijri calendar and in which occurs the day of Ashura (10i te 10 Muharram). Fasting on this day holds great virtue and significance as illustrated by the hadith of the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam:

For fasting the day of ‘Ashura’, I hope that Allah will accept it as expiation for the year that went before.” [Mahometa]

Fasting on the 9th of Muharram is also highly recommended by the Sunnah as this was the practice of the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam. Imam At-Tirmidhi reported that Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say: “We should fast on two days: the 9th and 10th of Muharram to distinguish ourselves from the Jewish community.”

This is only from the mercy and bounty of Allah towards us: for fasting one day He gives us expiation for the sins of a whole year!

May Allah grant us understanding of His perfect religion, guide us to the Straight Path and accept our deeds for His sake alone.

Please keep us and the Ummah in your du’as during this sacred month insha’Allah.

    • 9th and 10th of Muharram are very pious and noble days. Many important evtnes took place on these days. It is an act of belief and faith to fast on these two days and to recite Astagfar as much as possible. I fondly hope Muslims world-wide will observe the sanctity of these days. Inshallatala.
