Tokotaha Faʻu Tohí: Mali Haohaoa
Ibn ‘Abbas and Anas Ibn Malik (May Allah be pleased with them) lipooti: Ko e talafekau ʻa Allah (sallallahu alayhi wassallam) naʻe pehe ʻe, “If a son of Adam were to own a valley full of gold, he would desire to have two. Nothing can fill his mouth except the earth (of the grave). Allah turns with mercy to him who turns to Him in repentance”. [Al-Bukhari mo e Mosilemi]
This hadith refers to the love of wealth and the evil of abandoning good in order to seize it. Know that Allah SWT has decreed what rizq is written for you, so you should strive your best to earn a halal living, but your focus on life should not be to ‘get wealthy’.
Your focus should be on being the best Muslim you can be and you should constantly be thinking about how your wealth can benefit others.
Remember dear brothers and sisters, if you go to sleep at night with a full stomach, a roof over your head, a warm bed and money in your bank account, then you are amongst the top 8% of the World’s population, so learn to be grateful to Allah for what you have, instead of complaining about what you don’t have.
Our brothers and sisters in Gaza, Syria, Maomaonganoa ʻAfikanisi, Iraq and countless other places don’t even have enough clothes to keep them warm through the winter months, so remember this the next time you desire to be rich without a higher purpose.
